The Carbon Tracker Initiative are getting ready to take part to the Climate Week NYC and we aim to organise a series of events to present our financial research and regulatory advocacy work to the attention of a mainstream finance target audience, who might not go to any other climate events.

Current planned events in NYC are:

CARBON SUPPLY COST CURVES: EVALUATING COAL CAPITAL EXPENDITURES

Closed Event

09/22 : 8:00am – 11:15am

Bloomberg LP
731 Lexington Avenue
New York, New York 10022

CTI and ETA will present the  report “Carbon Supply Cost Curves: Evaluating Coal Capital Expenditures” – second of a risk analysis series on oil, call and gas – to investors, asset managers, investment bankers, analysts and coal companies representatives.

The research suite aims at providing investors and fossil fuel companies with an analytical tool – the carbon supply cost curve – which helps identify which are the projects where the most financial risk lies and direct capital away from them. Following the oil report, we will be now focusing on the “risky coal”.

CLIMATE RISK DISCLOSURES AND FINANCIAL REGULATION:

A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

Closed Event

09/24 : 10:00am – 4:00pm

New York Stock Exchange
11 Wall Street
New York, New York

The transition to a low carbon economy is presenting fossil fuel companies with new challenges in how they report material business risk to investors in regulatory filings.

Carbon Tracker, IIGCC, CDSB, Ceres and PRI, along with interested partners such as UNEP Inquiry, are co-hosting a roundtable discussion to address this topic in New York to coincide with Ban Ki-moon’s Climate Summit.

The debate will be chaired by  Timothy E Wirth, Vice Chairman of the Board of the United Nations Foundation.

This invitation-only event is targeted at regulators, lawyers, capital market specialists interested in climate risk. A discussion paper will be circulated ahead of the event.

To support the roundtable discussion, Carbon Tracker, CDP and Ceres are producing a joint overview of climate risk disclosures made by 80 listed fossil fuel companies in response to questionnaires and over 20 letters on climate risk addressed to Ceres and the Carbon Tracker Initiative.

In addition CDSB is producing model stock exchange listings requirements for use by listing authorities and regulators wishing to provide guidance on climate risk disclosure by fossil fuel companies.

The event will be divided into three parts:

1. 10am-1pm // Detailed discussions of the core group

2. 1pm- 2pm // Informal lunch with high level external guests

3. 2pm-3.30pm // Official roundtable discussions
